About Skyline

SKYLINE HISTORY

Founded in 1951 in Elkhart, Indiana, Skyline initially produced the affordable housing units popularly known as house trailers or mobile homes.  These units evolved into today's manufactured and modular housing.  In 1960, we opened our first travel trailer plant.  During its 50-plus years of operation, Skyline has built more than 870,000 homes and 460,000 recreation vehicles (RVs), most of them travel trailers.  Its sales over the years total in excess of $15 billion.

SKYLINE ORGANIZATION

Corporate headquarters is in Elkhart, Indiana.  It houses marketing services, accounting, information technology, engineering, product development, financial, legal and other corporate functions.  Products are built by 21 operating divisions located in 11 states across the country.  Of the 21 divisions, 15 produce housing and 6 produce RVs.

SKYLINE FINANCIALS

Skyline has operated in the black every year since it was founded.  Its balance sheet is among the soundest in American industry with a strong cash position and no corporate debt.  Skyline is publicly owned and its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

SERVICES

Skyline provides a full warranty on all of its manufactured homes and recreational vehicles and backs it through a customer-oriented nationwide service program that is considered a model for U.S. manufacturers. 

HOUSING PRODUCTS

Skyline builds two types of Manufactured homes which are sold under a number of identifying names.  The single-section models emphasize affordability and frequently are sited in specially developed manufactured housing parks.  The multi-section models are also very affordable and in appearance they are almost indistinguishable from site-built housing.  Many are sited on conventional residential lots. 

 

Skyline Quality

NO NONSENSE WARRANTY

Manufacturing defects reported to Skyline within 15 months after original retail delivery by an authorized dealer will be corrected without charge and within reasonable time.

Misuse, unauthorized repairs or alterations, minor imperfections and dealer or owner improper transportaion or setup are excluded.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have other rights which vary from state to state.

CONSISTENT QUALITY

Consisten Quality Begins With Care For Detail

Our Manufactured homes are inspected frequently at the assembly plant during each phase of construction.  In-plant inspectors as well as independent agencies inspect your home on behalf of federal, state and local governments for code compliance.  Evidence of this inspection is normally the application of a federal, state or inspection agency label of approval.

COMMITMEMT OF EXCELLENCE

At both the divisional and corporate levels, we continue to stress the importance of increasing our knowledge of the preferences of Skyline homes customers and prospective customers.

Our Commitment of Excellence program is designed to help us determine if we are meeting the quality expectations of our maufactured housing customers by asking them to evaluate every aspect of there buying experience.  We want to know how well they are satisfied with their new Skyline home and if they are pleased with the professionalism, service and follow-up of the retail home dealer from whom the product was purchased.  If they had to do it all over again, would they choose a Skyline home?  Would they do business with the same manufactured home dealer?  Would they recommend Skyline or the dealer to a relative or friend?

The responses of Skyline home customers are translated into a Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) which is a uniform measurement of the quality of the entire buying experience from the customer's point of view.  To date, the results have been extremely useful.  We are learning much more about what customers want as well as what they feel they have received.  We are developing a detailed understanding of how Skyline and its Manufactured home dealers can continue to strengthen their ability to satisfy customers in today's competitive, quality-oriented market.  This effort has resulted in improved customer satisfaction, which is Skyline's goal.
